Rolex’s New Anti-Counterfeiting Strategy: Electronic Anti-Forgery Patent Arrives

Rolex-certified

Rolex, as a globally renowned watch brand, has been relentless in combating counterfeit products in the market. Recently, Rolex applied for an electronic anti-counterfeiting patent called “Watch Identity Card” with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to further protect consumer rights.

In the past, many brands like Vacheron Constantin, Omega, and Breitling have attempted to use blockchain technology to verify the authenticity of watches, but most of these projects have stalled. Now, Rolex is leading the innovation in this technology.

Rolex watches are not only the most actively traded brand globally but also frequently targeted by counterfeiters. To protect its watches and customers, Rolex is developing a solution that combines NFT chips and smartphone applications.

Watch Identity Chip: Revolutionizing Anti-Counterfeiting and Tracking Technology

According to the recent patent application submitted to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), this technology will be able to securely store and manage data related to the watches and improve the user repair communication experience, avoiding security risks associated with traditional methods.

The core of this technology is the “Watch Certificate”, similar to the purpose of other brands using blockchain technology, which is to prove the authenticity of the watch. Users can easily access a webpage and view detailed information about the watch by scanning a card with a QR code or NFC chip.

Additionally, users can generate an NFT-format certificate through a dedicated mobile application and register themselves as the first owner, ensuring complete traceability and ownership of the watch.

This innovation not only enhances the anti-counterfeiting capability of the watches but also provides users with greater security assurance. Rolex’s technology could become the new standard for watch anti-counterfeiting technology in the future.
