Differences Between Rolex 116500 and 126500
Since its launch in 1963, the Rolex Daytona series has been a symbol of chronograph watches, combining speed, performance, and prestige. In 2023, Rolex released the all-new 126500 model, making significant upgrades to this classic series while retaining its traditional charm and incorporating modern technology.
1. Design and Appearance
Although the 126500 model looks similar to its predecessor, the 116500, there are significant changes in detail. The new case is slimmer, with an overall thickness reduced by about 2mm, featuring a more refined design that makes it appear more elegant on the wrist.
Additionally, the hour markers of the new generation have become noticeably finer and more delicate, almost halving in size, giving a more elegant appearance. At the 6 o’clock position, the new generation adds the crown logo, consistent with other series. The crown mark between the “SWISS MADE” lettering enhances the recognizability of this generation’s design. Although this mark is relatively small, it remains one of the key features distinguishing the new generation of Rolex watches.
The ceramic bezel of the new generation Daytona appears thinner, as a metal ring has been added to the outer edge. This design not only protects the ceramic bezel but also complements the slimmer three chronograph sub-dials.
Furthermore, the dial design of the 126500 has been rethought, with thinner sub-dial borders and a larger main dial area, enhancing readability and giving the watch a sportier look.
2. Performance and Technology
The new generation Rolex calibre 4131 movement makes its debut in the 126500, enhancing precision and power reserve. Its design considers anti-magnetism and features a patented Chronergy escapement system that reduces energy loss, offering higher reliability and durability, with a daily deviation of -2/+2 seconds. Additionally, the Paraflex shock absorbers protect the movement’s core. The improved ball bearing also helps enhance the automatic winding function.
3. Wearing Comfort
The Oyster bracelet of the 126500 model has been newly designed to provide better comfort and fit. From the front, the differences in the cases of the two generations of Daytona are minimal, but from the side, the lugs of the new generation Daytona exhibit more pronounced curves, appearing thicker and creating a stronger connection with the bracelet. This ensures there is no discomfort while wearing it.
The overall design of this watch not only focuses on appearance but also considers long-term wearing comfort, making it an excellent choice for a sports chronograph watch.
Historical Evolution
The history of the Rolex Daytona dates back to 1963, when the 6239 model was introduced as the first chronograph watch equipped with a tachymetric scale. Over time, Rolex has continually improved the Daytona series, maintaining its classic aesthetics.
For example, the 16520 model introduced in 1988 was the first automatic Daytona, while the 116500 launched in 2016 was the first model with a ceramic bezel, further enhancing its durability and modernity.
The Rolex 126500 not only retains classic design elements but also undergoes modern upgrades in various aspects. Whether in design, performance, or wearing experience, the 126500 demonstrates Rolex’s pursuit of excellence and sets a new standard for future chronograph watches.
