Every September, the eyes of watch enthusiasts around the world are focused on Hong Kong, as it hosts the “Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair” and “International Brand Watch Fair,” becoming a major event in the watch industry. These two exhibitions not only showcase the latest watch technologies and design trends but also provide an excellent business platform for international buyers and exhibitors.

Phoenix Rising: Rebirth After the Pandemic

The 2024 Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair and International Brand Watch Fair marks the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s first full return to offline exhibitions. This event is not just a showcase of watches but also a reunion of the industry. During the pandemic, the watch industry faced challenges such as supply chain disruptions and shrinking demand, but with the recovery of the global economy, consumer demand for high-quality watches has risen again.

Exhibition Highlights: A Perfect Combination of Fashion and Technology

This year’s exhibition, themed “Fashion Rendezvous,” features designs and participating brands that embody the fusion of fashion and technology. Among them, the “World Brand Piazza” has become the focal point, gathering the world’s most prestigious watch brands to showcase limited editions and rare timepieces, attracting the attention of many watch collectors.

Design and Creativity: The Rise of Local Talent

This year’s “Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair” has entered its 43rd edition, an international watch exhibition designed for industry professionals, with over 700 exhibitors. The Hong Kong Watch Design Competition has always been a highlight of the industry. This year’s competition attracted many emerging designers, whose works showcased limitless creativity and design talent. The newly added “Market Potential Award” encourages local young designers to innovate and explore more marketable design directions.

This year’s physical exhibition focuses on four main areas: “Eternal Time,” “Packaging Materials,” “Machinery and Equipment,” and “Accessories and Parts.”

The local independent watch brand Anpassa will showcase its “Hong Kong Historical Story Remembrance Series,” featuring the Kowloon Walled City Tourbillon Watch. This watch is inspired by the Kowloon Walled City and utilizes micro-sculpting technology to recreate the classic appearance of the Walled City on the dial. Due to the dense architecture of the Walled City, the design team first defined its outline and then used computers and diamond tools to sketch the details, paired with a blue electroplated dial to evoke a strong sense of Hong Kong.

Additionally, the mainland brand Beijing (Beijing Watch) will present the limited edition “Year of the Dragon Zodiac Tourbillon Watch,” with only 99 pieces available, at the “International Brand Watch Fair.” This watch features a design theme of a golden dragon playing with a pearl, with a black enamel dial inlaid with a relief-style three-dimensional golden dragon, inspired by the Nine Dragons Wall in the Forbidden City, vividly depicting its grandeur. The transparent case back is engraved with the cursive character “Dragon” by Emperor Qianlong and is powered by the swallow TB01 tourbillon movement developed by Xu Yaonan, the father of Chinese tourbillons, boasting a 60-hour power reserve, with a swallow marking on the tourbillon frame.

The Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair and International Brand Watch Fair are not only showcases for watches but also platforms for the dissemination of watch culture and the collision of creativity. As the exhibition comes to a close, we witness the thriving development of the watch industry and the innovation and resilience shown by the entire sector in the face of challenges.
